Soap Free Guacamole

Recipe

  • 3 avocados (for larger parties, I would assume about ½ to a whole avocado per person)

    Juice of 1 lime*

¼ cup diced onion (can be red or white onion – your preference)

    1-2 minced garlic cloves

Optional – tomatoes – it’s good with or without!

Franks Red hot sauce – to taste

Salt and pepper – to taste

    NO cilantro**

  • 1. Mash avocados to your desired texture. If you like the taste of avocados on their own, leave larger chunks. If you like a tangier flavour throughout, mash into a smoother texture.

    2. Add in lime juice, onion, garlic, tomatoes (if you want them), hot sauce, salt and pepper and mix well

    3. Enjoy :) with your favourite tortilla chips or on top of roasted chicken! (trust me).

  • *The lime in this recipe not only tastes great, but the acidity of the lime prevents the guacamole from going brown! The browning of the avocado is a result of a chemical reaction happening between compounds in the avocado that are now exposed, reacting with the oxygen in the air. The acidity of the lime slows down the chemical reaction giving you more time with your green avocado! This trick works the same with apples and lemon juice – yum!

**Cilantro has been known to divide people in the same way that pineapple on pizza has divided great nations. For some people, cilantro presents a floral or even “soapy” flavour that can be quite unpleasant. This differing taste from person to person has been investigated and it appears to be connected to genetics, which is wild! There is a cluster of olfactory genes that has been found in studies to detect the aldehydes or “soapy” smell in cilantro.
